Air Travel
Conveniently located just ten minutes from downtown San Diego and serviced by 22 major and commuter airlines, San Diego International Airport (SAN) receives more than 16 million passengers a year.
The convention center and Solar Power 2008 hotels are just a 10 minute taxi ride from the airport and the average fare is $10 - $12.
Shuttle vans and buses operated by private companies are also available. You can find shuttle service at the Transportation Plazas across from Terminals 1 and 2, and curbside at the Commuter Terminal.
In addition, there are a number of public transportation services available to you at any given time when you need to get to and from the airport.
Amtrak and Greyhound Bus
The Santa Fe Depot (Amtrak) and the Greyhound Bus Station are located in the heart of downtown San Diego and are within walking distance of the convention center and Solar Power 2008 hotels.
Amtrak at Santa Fe Depot station offers rail service from San Diego with 11 round trips to Los Angeles, continuing to Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo. Also available at the Santa Fe Depot station is access to the Coaster, local commuter train service, and the San Diego Trolley.
Blocks away from the Santa Fe Depot station is Greyhound. Greyhound operates daily trips into and out of San Diego and connects to all major U.S. cities.
Rental Cars
The convention center is located in Downtown San Diego, a compact and convenient walking area, just 10 minutes from the airport. Therefore Solar Power 2008 organizers recommend making use of public transportation and taxis rather than renting a car. However, San Diego is made up of over 50 unique cities and unincorporated areas and renting a car is a great way to explore all the destination has to offer. There are numerous rental car agencies throughout the region with several located at the San Diego International Airport.
